Children respond best to therapy when they are able to express themselves through play, art, sand play, puppets, and games. Often, this is referred to as play therapy. Children's most natural form of communication is play! Play therapy helps children to resolve emotional challenges and guides them to make progress towards in the areas of growth and development. Play therapy works best for children between the ages of 3 and 11. Play therapy helps children to express their feelings, thoughts, needs, gain social skills, change problematic behavior, and gain problem solving skills. I encourage parental involvement as it is so important for children's growth and progress in therapy to have parents take part in therapy.

Teens do very well with talk therapy, the utilization of games, workbooks, sand tray therapy, art, and music. By creating a connection with teens through the ways listed above, most teens do quite well in therapy when they are able to process their hopes, dreams, conflict with peers, stressors at school, family challenges, and by feeling understood by their therapist. A positive relationship with a therapist is so important in the outcome in both individual and family therapy with teens.

Trauma can be incredibly scary to go through as a child, teen or adult. It can be incredibly scary as a parent to know how to support a child who has experienced trauma as well.
We specialize in trauma based treatment for both children and adolescents (ages 3 to 18) and utilize the evidence-based treatment model, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT has been well researched and has shown to be very effective in over 80% of children who have been exposed to a traumatic event. TF-CBT is effective in treating both children who meet a PTSD diagnosis as well as those who may not been this diagnosis but who have seen, experienced, or undergone a traumatic incident. Trauma can look different for each child or teen. Together, we will explore if this treatment model will be helpful for your child and what is involved in the treatment model.
We also treat adults who have gone through a traumatic event and/or traumatic grief. Allow us to support you and assist you in healing.
